Job Summary

The position of the Interpreter/Translator is located in the Afghanistan Customs Department and under the direct supervision of the Operations Director; the Interpreter/Translator will be responsible for providing accurate interpretation and translation services to fulfill SCRTP objectives.

Duties & Responsibilities

Provide consistently accurate and high-quality written and oral translation in English/Pashtu; this will include oral/simultaneous translations and translations of texts, including legal and policy documents and reports;

Provide simultaneous interpretation to the Operations Director at meetings, conventions etc.

Ensure the adherence of established translation standards in order to provide delivery of consistent and coherent translation services throughout the project; Collectively with the supervisor ensure the work of the unit is completed and delivered in a timely manner;

The Interpreter/Translator will be required to work closely with internal Afghan Customs business units as well as external Customs stakeholders such as Customs Brokers, Importers, and line Ministry officers.

Ensure clearance and approval of all translated documentation by the management;

Keep track of all documents and maintain copies and electronic backups of the translated materials; and

Perform other related duties as required.

Accuracy in written and oral translations/interpretations

Final Product


Ensuring and facilitating smooth and clear communication between the International Customs Advisor and local partners/counterparts/colleagues, minimizing any potential miscommunications

Job Requirements

Education


Bachelor’s Degree in English or Law required

Certificates in translation techniques highly desirable

b. Work Experience


A minimum of 2 years’ experience in providing written and oral translations/interpretations

Experience in translating technical documents required (legal documents etc.)

c. Language skills

Excellent command of the English language, both oral and written, a must and excellent spoken and written Pashto required

Ability to provide accurate simultaneous interpretations
