Job Summary

The Mine Action Coordination Centre for Afghanistan is seeking to put together roster translation experts for the translation of documents from English to Pashto as well as Pashto to English on a part time basis.

Duties & Responsibilities

MACCA will test and select an undetermined number of expert translators (Not less then 3) to be available for part time work on a rotational basis. The translators on the roster will be notified by email or telephone that there is work to be done including the number of pages for translation and the completion deadline. The translators will have a specified time frame for which to confirm their availability. Work may be done from the contractor’s home. Deadlines must be met or the contractor will be dropped from the roster.
The MACCA predicts that initially there will regular translation work but cannot guarantee a steady workflow.

The Translators will report directly to the department requesting translation services as well as other consulting MACCA staff for technical and quality translation levels are achieved.

MACA will pay USD $ 85- 90 for each 1000 words translated subject to the quality of translation provided.

Translators will be responsible for the following types of tasks:

 Translation of Mine Action related documents to Pashto from English
 Translation of Mine Action related documents to English from Pashto

Job Requirements

 University or equivalent degree of education in related field.
 Minimum 5 years experience in translations.
 Self reliant and able to work independently and to a deadline.
 Must be computer literate.
 Fluent in English and Pashto, all oral and written
 Familiarity with Mine Action terminology is an asset.
