Under the direct supervision of Project Manager and Snr. Natural Resource Coordinator, Watershed Management Officer is responsible for identification, survey, implementation and supervision of all NRM related activities in the field. The Officer will work closely with NRM colleagues in provincial and district level and will resolve all field level issues together with the stakeholders.
Collect baseline data for all watershed related activities necessary for soil, water and plant conservation and design of watershed projects.
Identify areas for conducting action research in of watershed management.
Act as contact person between watershed management committee, government, and non-government agencies and concern worldwide.
Technically guide the skilled and unskilled labors in soil and water conservation activities including contour bonding, terracing, check dam, gully check, etc.
Develop watershed treatment plan, and keep update record of the work progress.
Develop appropriate memorandum of understanding (MoU) and Agreements with communities, institutions in controlling grazing, contribution in NRM, water sharing, establishment of farmers’ field schools/ demonstrations etc.
Assist in the identification of target group through participatory processes.
Ensure in program design and assessment stage environmental protection, equity and disaster risk reduction measures incorporate into program activities.
Ensure that the projects are carried out according to the standard operating procedures, technical manuals and policies.
Collection and compiling of data including on farm trials, fruit, vegetable nurseries, forest plantation and rangeland management.
Inform District Manager and Watershed Officer about any technical problems, e.g., appearance of pest and diseases etc.
Quality control of the work progress at watershed level and reporting to relevant sectors and departments.
Technical guide and establish nurseries, direct seeding, and tree plantation in watershed area.
Deliver a strong message on importance of watershed and reforestation among the communities.
Ensure and promote women participation wherever possible.
Ensure Program participant Protection Policy is adhered into the project planning, delivery and monitoring.
Identify opportunities for external consultants’ inputs and develop TORs, accordingly together with the project manager identify consultants.
Ensure regular information collection on each agreed indicators and reported.
Organize internal monitoring and impact assessment visits.
Contribution to activities and providing support to NRM department.
Any other duty assigned by the director
Qualification & Experience:
Bachelor Degree in Forestry, NRM, Environmental, Water Management or any other relevant field.
At least 3 years’ experience in the relevant field etc.
Experience of supervising community level activities.
Experience in the establishment and support of community led projects
o Particularly in watershed management.
o Able to write a good report.
Communicate with officer in all aspects of NRM activities.
Liaise with relevant government departments and keep updated them on the project progress and achievements on regular basis.
Good knowledge of MS office, GPS and other watershed related software.
Oral and written communication skills in English, Dari and Pashto
