Islamic Relief has been working in Afghanistan for more than 23 years, providing emergency relief and implementing life-changing development projects for some of the most vulnerable people in the country. Islamic Relief set up our first Afghanistan office in 1999. Since then, IRA continued providing assistances in emergency relief, food security, livelihood, education, health, nutrition, shelter, orphan sponsorship, Ramadan and Qurbani programmes.

Job Summary

A proactive and enthusiastic Nurse Intern to support the health team.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Assisting in the daily care of inpatients and outpatients under supervision of senior nurses.
• Monitoring patients’ vital signs and recording accurate observations.
• Learning to administer medications and treatments as per medical instructions.
• Supporting infection prevention and control measures in clinical settings.
• Participating in basic wound care, IV-line setup, and dressing changes under guidance.
• Assisting qualified midwives in antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care of mothers and newborns.
• Participating in birth planning and safe delivery procedures under close supervision.
• Monitoring fetal health and maternal vital signs during labor.
• Educating pregnant women about nutrition, hygiene, and family planning.
• Helping in neonatal care and basic resuscitation when necessary.
• Assisting in the documentation and registration of births.
• Observing and assisting in performing ultrasound scans under supervision.
• Learning to operate and maintain ultrasound machines and related diagnostic tools.
• Assisting in preparing patients and explaining procedures to ensure comfort and cooperation.
• Recording and organizing images and diagnostic findings.
• Supporting in preparing reports for doctors and ensuring patient data confidentiality.

Job Requirements

Education:

• Bachelor or Diploma in Nursing from a recognized University or Institute.

Experience:

• Fresh Graduate with no experience

The duty station of the intern will be the host entity (Kulsum Medical Complex) and the salary will be paid by Islamic Relief Worldwide- Afghanistan (IRW- A) based on agreement.
