Islamic Relief has been working in Afghanistan for more than 23 years, providing emergency relief and implementing life-changing development projects for some of the most vulnerable people in the country. Islamic Relief set up our first Afghanistan office in 1999. Since then, IRA continued providing assistances in emergency relief, food security, livelihood, education, health, nutrition, shelter, orphan sponsorship, Ramadan and Qurbani programmes.

Job Summary

The project Officer is responsible for supervising effective Health and Nutrition services, including support to the Health and Nutrition coordinator and field teams in Herat provinces to implement the lifesaving health services project in these provinces.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ensure – through clear weekly and monthly work plans – lifesaving health services, field assessments, community-based activities, especially health and nutrition services are carried out in a timely, effective and technically sound manner.   
  • Supervise and facilitate smooth health services delivery through health teams are provided to all those in needs to communities with health concerns.
  • Support the collection of information/data about PSS needs of the community, vulnerability to communicable and non-communicable illness. 
  • Work collaboratively with other program and technical staff to ensure necessary program planning development and management activities function smoothly and efficiently.
  • Assist Senior Management Team with development of work plans reporting and monitoring and evaluation.
  • Work collaboratively with field staff to ensure that resources for effective and timely program implementation are available.
  • Coordinate with partners as needed and set up/execute ongoing coordination mechanisms under the leadership of the Program, IR Afghanistan.
  • Participate in and lead as needed monitoring and evaluation of activities for provinces.
  • Oversee technical assistance needed to execute project work plans activities and help fulfil any gaps identified.
  • Ensure timely accurate and appropriate reporting of program activities and results to the IR Afghanistan donor and other stakeholders.
  • Contribute to proposal management design writing and editing and project reporting.
  • Participate in the review of technical and programmatic portions of documents
  • Contribute to the development of novel knowledge management and sharing tools and processes
  • Prepare and submit activity plans and reports to the project and health coordinator on agreed schedules.  
  • Provide verbal and written feedback to supervisor on progress, lesson learnt, achievements and gaps, issues and problems.  
  • Keep a database of the number of beneficiaries per activity in each location,
  • Any other duties as may be assigned by the Line Manager.


Job Requirements

Education:

  • Medical Doctor, Master of Public health advantage

 

Experience:

  • 3-4 years of related experience.
  • Strong Command on Pashto/Dari and English.
  • Working experience in the targeted provinces and familiar with concerned community, geography and culture.
